Fear, that feeling that creeps up inside causing us to...shake in our boots...get butterflies in our stomach...experience contraction in our muscles. Yes, you know that feeling, the one that makes our hands cold and clammy, creates a bead of sweat when its not hot in the room, and causes us to feel tired even when we've had enough sleep. It could be fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of things remaining the same, it doesn't matter, in a way, it's all the same. Fear is a construct of the ego, the emotion that keeps us small.
Fear is the memory of pain from the past that gives rise to dislikes of the ego in the present that are then projected into the future. Fear is a core emotion that calls us toward healing the past. Fear can not be healed simply by avoiding what it is outside of us that seems to be creating the feeling within us. That is just another trap of the ego. Fear is created within and must be healed from within. To heal, go within, understand what it is that has given rise to the fear, challenge it, come to understand what is at the core of it. Challenge it. Move forward by bringing that information and the feelings to your own heart to be burned in the fire of love. When we surround our fears with love, fears dissolve enabling us to detach from them. As we detach and find unconditional love, we will begin to see fear as our greatest teacher.
